Earlier today, I went on a little rant, and pointed to an accidental shooting in Stanwood to draw an example between something Jay talked about on Saturday, and something that happened in Bremerton a few weeks ago...basically asking, will a police officer face the same punishment as a non-police officer when involved in a similar situation.
Well. in a way that question has already been answered. This evening, the 7-year old daughter who was accidentally shot passed away.
One major difference that I failed to point out earlier between the accidental shooting in Stanwood, and the accidental school shooting in Bremerton, is that in the Stanwood shooting, the officer's own child was the victim, and not some random classmate.
What difference is that? Well...now that the child has passed away...let's face it....there is nothing that the legal system can do to this guy that is worse than what he is doing to himself. He left a gun readily available, and one of his children used it to accidentally kill one of his other children. Both the child, and the father, are NEVER going to get over it.
This is now past 'making an example'. My heart goes out to the family.
